Customers in Chinatown use the ubiquitous pink and red plastic bags in San Francisco. Starting on October 1, 2012 the city of San Francisco will broaden a current ban on plastic bags, which applies only to large grocery stores and chain pharmacies, to apply to all businesses, including retail establishments. Some retailers like Flax Art Store will be granted exemption from the ban for certain specialty plastic bags.
