Jeryl (Jeri) Hilleman poses for a portrait at her home in Palo Alto, California. Ms. Hilleman’s father, Maurice Hilleman, invented the MMR vaccine (for measles, mumps, and rubella) that has been credited with saving millions of lives. When, in March 21, 1963, Jeryl Lynn woke up with Mumps symptoms, Maurice Hilleman set out to create a mumps vaccine and named it later after Jeryl Lynn.
