Dr. Karl Deisseroth poses for a portrait in his lab in the James H. Clark Center at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Recently, Dr. Deisseroth led a team that published on a new method called CLARITY. It uses a chemical treatment to turn whole brains transparent, allowing researchers to take pieces of brain tissue and peer into their structure in great detail and in three dimensions.
